San Sebastian Coatan Chuj people live in Guatemala. They are related to the Ixtat n Chuj people from the same region. Both groups speak Chuj.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Their diet is heavy on tortillas which they eat three times a day. Homes might be made of concrete blocks, but they are more likely to be adobe, clay, or wood. Their homes, and the women s clothing, are brightly colored. There are many schools in their region, resulting in a high literacy rate.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The San Mateo Ixtatan Chujs can be Roman Catholic, Evangelical or they might practice their ancient Mayan religious rites.

What Are Their Needs?

The San Mateo Ixtatan Chujs need to learn new skills that will help them adapt in the 21st century. There is no future in subsistence farming.
